Pop off the taillight with a Phillips screwdriver, use a common screwdriver to help pry out the old filler housing clips, remove grommet from old housing, install grommet on new housing, remove metal door from housing use a hex key, pop new housing in place, work grommet around the fuel pipe, replace the metal door and your done once you install your taillight. Very quick, very easy, and looks great!! 

This is a quick and easy upgrade for any wrangler. All it takes is a matter of minutes and you can have this installed. Very clean looking after installation and flows with the Jeep as if it was installed in the factory.

Start off with the misleading photo. It shows the carrier mounted on a spare tire. The carrier comes with no means to mount to a tire bracket. You must fabricate your own.

Other than that, it's a good product and easily mounts to a flat surface like the side of a truck bed. It has an advantage over the traditional pan-style Jerry can carrier in that it has a locking, metal strap (you provide the lock) that goes over the top of the can and blocks the spout so you can't steal the can or siphon the gas. Of course with the right tools you can steal it. Just not easily.

Perhaps a disadvantage compared to the traditional carrier is that the gas can sits on two small pieces of metal that form the bottom braces of the carrier. Not much surface area to carry the weight of a full can. Under rugged trail conditions and over time, they could dent or wear the bottom of the can. Probably not a real concern unless you drive hundreds of miles off-road.

.....along comes this awesome Smittybilt Jerry Can Holder! This thing is well built and the powdercoat is really nice. Please don't believe it will "float" at the back of your tire, there's a separate adapter available for that mounting (search "Smittybilt 2740 I-Rack", or "Intelligent Rack", here on Amazon or check "The Bay"). This Jerry Can Holder has mounting holes on both long sides and it should be pretty easy to fabricate some form of suitable mount for it. As mentioned in other reviews, there are a bunch of rubber isolaters to keep your metal can off of the metal frame, they're not really secure---you'll want to get some self stick insulation to replace this, but it's no issue, really. You can leave the isolators in place if you never plan on removing the can from the holder (parade queen, like my buddies Jeep!); otherwise they'll pop out when you pull the can.
Overall, I'm really impressed at the quality and appearance of this thing for the money!
